This Week's TOPS Students.

Dear Riverview Families,
We all dream of a bright future for our children. In today's technology-driven world, their success will increasingly depend on understanding how technology works.
That's why our school is excited to join the largest learning event in history: The Hour of Code, during Computer Science Education Week (December 9-15). With over 100 million students worldwide participating, the Hour of Code is a powerful way to prepare our students with essential 21st-century skills. We actually take it a little further and extend Hour of Code through the month of December. We want to give your children an opportunity to learn things like basic coding concepts, problem-solving skills, and collaboration and teamwork, which will help them in many dynamic and professional fields in the future.
We want to make our Hour of Code event at Riverview truly impactful. To do this, we need your help! Please have conversations with your children about what they are doing in Tech Class. Have them log in and show you what "coding" looks like in their grade. It will have a big impact on helping to instill the importance of technology in our world.
This is our chance to make a real difference in the future of education at Riverview. For more details visit hourofcode.com...maybe try a project of two yourself!
Let's prepare our children for a brighter future together!

Dear Riverview Families,
We are writing to share an important and heartfelt update regarding a beloved member of our Riverview School District family. After more than 42 years of dedicated service, our long time custodian, Ron Schick, will be retiring as of December 31st..
Some of you who have been long-time residents of Silver Lake may remember that on June 1, 1982, a young 18-year-old began working here at Riverview, and since that day, Mr. Schick has been a constant presence in the halls of our school. Over the years, he has not only kept our school clean and running smoothly but has also become an integral part of the fabric of our school community.
In that time, Mr. Schick has worked alongside eight different administrators, countless teachers, staff, and board members, and has witnessed generations of students pass through the doors of Riverview. It’s a testament to his commitment that many of our families, both past and present, recognize him as an enduring part of their children’s school experience. In fact, we’ve heard from former students who now bring their own children to Riverview—and their children proudly say, "He's my janitor," with parents responding, "He was mine too," and even grandparents chiming in, "He was my janitor as well."
Mr. Schick's last full day is Friday, November 15th but he will be coming in a few hours a week until his official retirement date of December 31st.
As we make this transition, we are pleased to announce that our other full-time custodian, Brian Schmalfeldt, will assume the role of Head Custodian. Brian has worked alongside Mr. Schick for the past 34 years and is well-equipped to carry forward the same high standard of care and dedication that has been a hallmark of our custodial team. We are confident that Mr. Schmalfeldt will continue to ensure that Riverview remains a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for our students, staff, and families.
We want to express our deep gratitude to Mr. Schick for his unwavering dedication to our school community. Riverview has never just been a job for him; it’s always been a family. He has touched so many lives over the years, and we know his presence will be greatly missed.
Please join us in thanking Ron Schick for his years of service, and in wishing him all the best in this next chapter of life. At the same time, we ask for your continued support as Mr. Schmalfeldt takes on this new role.
Sincerely,
Kim Taylor
