Dear Riverview Board of Education and Community Members,
After much reflection, I am writing to share my decision to resign as District Administrator of Riverview School District for personal reasons. This decision was not made lightly, as it has been an honor to serve this community for the past two and a half years. Together, we have accomplished meaningful work that reflects the heart and values of Riverview where we empower, embrace, and educate every student, every day.
During my time here, we have built a strong foundation for Riverview’s future. With the support of our community, we successfully passed a referendum that addressed critical facility needs and set the stage for continued growth. We developed and implemented Riverview’s first strategic plan, engaging more than 70 staff, students, families, and community members in defining our shared vision. That collaborative process gave us a clear direction, aligning our daily efforts with the priorities that matter most to this community.
We also created Riverview’s first 10-year facilities plan to ensure we plan responsibly for the future. Through careful management and collaboration with the Board, we completed two budget cycles under budget, growing our fund balance to 38%, a reflection of the district’s fiscal responsibility and commitment to long-term stability. We did this by auditing systems, looking for ways to invest money, applying for grants and thinking outside of the box with healthcare benefits to save both the district and staff money.
Our investment in people has been equally important. We have strengthened teacher support through consultants and a coaching model designed to align classroom instruction with district priorities and community expectations, including Project-Based Learning and a Coplan-CoServe model designed to support student learning. These efforts have also contributed to increased open enrollment, as more families recognize the exceptional learning experiences Riverview offers. Building teacher capacity and supporting teachers in change was a priority set forth in our strategic planning process.
We have also prioritized school safety in meaningful and lasting ways. Working in partnership with the Kenosha County Sheriff’s Department, we created an enhanced and more detailed district safety plan. We added layers of protection through increased training, clear visuals, and curriculum to ensure we are prepared for any critical incident. Most recently, we implemented a crisis alert system that allows immediate notification to 911 from anywhere in the building with the push of a button making Riverview one of only two districts in the state with this technology.
I am also proud of the ways we have enhanced communication and connection. We launched a new website that showcases the great work of our students and staff, including a video that highlights why Riverview is a school of choice. Through monthly newsletters, social media updates, and community-wide publications, we’ve strengthened the bridge between our schools and the broader Silver Lake community.
I leave knowing that Riverview is in a strong position financially, academically, and organizationally to continue moving forward. The work we have done together has built momentum that will serve the district well for years to come.
Thank you to the Board of Education for your partnership and to our staff, students, families, and community for your trust and support. Riverview is a gem, and I will always be grateful to have been a part of its story.
With gratitude,
Kimberly Taylor
District Administrator
