Dear Riverview Elementary School Families,
I am writing to let you know we are monitoring the weather for Wednesday, January 21, and Friday, January 23. While conditions will be messy during the morning commute, current forecasts do not indicate that a Winter Storm Warning will be issued tomorrow. Based on the information we have now, school is expected to be in session. As always, we will continue to monitor conditions closely and adjust if necessary, and our goal is always to communicate in a timely manner that allows families to plan accordingly.
Looking ahead to Friday, the primary concern is extreme cold. I want to take a moment to clarify how weather decisions are made in situations like this. In cold-weather situations, school is canceled only when an Extreme Cold Warning is issued. For our region, an Extreme Cold Warning is issued when sustained wind chills are -30 degrees or colder.
-Advisories mean conditions require awareness and preparation.
-Warnings indicate dangerous conditions that are likely to result in school closures if they occur during school transport times.
We encourage families to ensure students are dressed appropriately for winter conditions, particularly if walking or waiting for transportation.
Please know that student safety is always our top priority. We will continue to evaluate updated forecasts and communicate any changes promptly through our usual communication channels.
Thank you for your continued partnership and support.
Sincerely,
Mr. Chris Trottier
