LATEST COVID-19 UPDATE FROM ADMINISTRATION

Good Afternoon Riverview Families,

Week 2 of the school year is complete!

This time of year we often have students who ride their bikes to school, often over 40 in a day. If your child is a bike rider, please remind them to be aware of surroundings and to ride their bikes along the right side of the road. Silver Lake is a much busier place during the school year and before and after school are particularly busy times. We want to make sure everyone arrives at school and returns home safely.

Our morning drop off and pick up has been going well so far this year and we have many more parents providing rides to their children than in the past. Thank you for your patience and care during this busy time of the day!

On Thursday morning we had a meeting with Dousman to discuss how transportation is going. Adjustments have been made to route times which has helped. Early next week Dousman may adjust a couple of routes to balance out the number of students riding each bus. Any changes would be minimal and our office or Dousman will follow up with those affected.

The Wisconsin Department of Health Services has released a new guidance document regarding cloth face coverings in schools.

The Westosha Conference District Administrators will be meeting on Monday, September 21st to discuss the winter sports seasons (Girls Basketball, Boys Basketball, Cheerleading, Boys and Girls Volleyball).

Conducting in-person and virtual classes has been a challenge so far and we appreciate your patience as we work through the bugs. Our goal is to create a structure where all students are at the same place with classroom instruction and can access instruction whether attending school in-person, virtually, or temporarily virtual during an absence, illness, quarantine, or isolation period. While we have not had any instances to date of a student testing positive for COVID, we are already seeing times where students are not able to attend school due to health situations and are attending class virtually. We will get better at this every day!

Have a great evening and enjoy your weekend!

Jon Schleusner

District Administrator

ONE OF WISCONSIN'S TOP 20 SCHOOLS IN 2019

Because of the mandated school closure, Riverview is applying to the Wisconsin DPI for a waiver of their Instructional Hours requirement and is having a public hearing at our April 27 Board Meeting. While we have been providing virtual /distance learning activities since school was closed March 13, the waiver is required because we (and nearly every district in the state) will not be able to meet the face-to-face instructional hours typical in a normal school year. Comments can be shared via the following email address: waiver@silverlakejt1.k12.wi.us , or a comment can be dropped off in the school lobby.
