Fifth Graders Take an Incredible Journey

posted Nov 13, 2013, 9:18 AM by Julie Strasser
The fifth graders took an "incredible journey" to the Westosha Veterinary
Hospital in Silver Lake on Friday, October 18.  The students delivered many donations for the Safe Harbor Humane Society in Kenosha.  Afterwards, they had the chance to ask questions about the important work that the veterinarians do at the hospital.  The students participated in this service-learning activity after reading the book The Incredible Journey by Sheila Burnford.  In the book, two dogs and a cat go on an adventure in the Canadian wilderness to find their owners.  If you would still like to make a donation, the Safe Harbor Humane Society is in need of:
  • Washable cat and dog toys
  • Cat and dog food (wet and dry)
  • Scrub sets
  • Small animal and bird cages
  • Carriers and crates
  • Non-clumping, inexpensive cat litter
  • Copy paper (8 ½ x 11) white and colored
  • Letter-size manila file folders
  • Two-pocket colored folders
